Our Goals
ChilOut believes that every child has the right to live in safety, with dignity and freedom, regardless of how they arrive in Australia and that every child should be afforded their basic human rights.
To see our vision realised, ChilOut aims to:
-
Ensure that all children in Australian-run immigration detention facilities are released from detention as a matter of priority.
-
Create policy and law reform so that children are never again held in immigration detention centres for longer than is necessary to conduct health, security and identity checks, which should be no longer than seven days.
-
Ensure that all children who come to Australia seeking asylum are treated with basic human dignity and in accordance with Australia’s human rights obligations, especially those contained in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
-
Have an independent guardian appointed for children who come to Australia seeking asylum and ensure that children are afforded special care and protection.
