15 June 2015 - Day of Action to End Child Detention in Canberra with speeches from ChilOut's Campaign Coordinator and two Youth Ambassadors who came to Australia as child refugees: https://youtu.be/bcXIF6d7ASo (film work by the fabulous Emma Davies).
7 March 2015 - Presentation to the Refugee Action Collective QLD Conference. Alain Rondot, ChilOut Board Member, presented this pack at the conference on ChilOut and the status of children in incarceration.
He also closed the conference with his plenary session address. Key points from the closing address:
- Be passionate. This issue is emotive, therefore needs an emotional response
- Change will not come easy and will take time. Be resilient and support each other
- We have a duty to intervene. It is not right to sit idle and do nothing
- Focus on one thing and do it well. Then focus on the next one. This will avoid the sense of being overwhelmed and powerless
- Challenge the candidates in your Federal seat for the 2016 election. Ask them where they stand on the issue and tell them your position
- Donate - time, skills, dollars, but most importantly your connections. We need a groundswell of connected Australians
- Embrace diversity. The more we do, the more we support refugees and asylum seekers
